Welcome to the Elizabeth Rocca blog! In this blog we’re going to be walking you through Felt Creative’s needle-felt bear kit! This kit makes 2 adorable bears (and you can make them as small or as chonky as you like!)
In the organza bag you will find: wool, yarn, two felting needles, two pairs of eyes and some instructions – so here’s how we did it!
To start off, you’ll need to divide one of your main colours of wool into two sections. One half will be used for the bear’s body and the other for extra features like the ears!
Now, take one half and roll it up relatively tightly so that it’s oval shaped.
You can then use your blue needle to jab in and out of the wool until it looks similar to the image on the right. The rounded end will be the bear’s head.
Next, add another layer of wool around your bear to make it a bit chubbier – you can then use the red needle to felt the layer in, as well as to create a smoother finish.
Then, as shown to the right, take two small pieces of wool and fold them in half, felting them into a stronger structure. You can then felt them onto the bears head wherever you feel they look best.
For this step, you’ll want a small piece of your lighter wool. Felt this into an oval shape and then felt it onto the bear – again, choose where you feel it fits best in relation to how your bear looks, but refer to our image if you aren’t sure.
For his tummy, you will also need a piece of the lighter wool. Felt it into an oval shape like you did for the snout and attach it to the lower half of the body.
For the next step, take a small piece of the black wool and felt it into an oval shape. Then attach it to the snout.
Then for the bear’s eyes, just use your needle to make a small hole where you would like them to go, and then slot the eyes in!
Time for the scarf!
First, you’ll need to unravel a bit of your wool. Then, loosely wrap it around the bears neck to get an idea of what length you’ll need to cut the wool to.
Now, with your ideal length in mind, cut 9 strands of the wool (but remember to always cut them longer than you need as when you plait the scarf it will get shorter).
You can now knot one end of the strands together and plait it – we would recommend using 3 of the 9 strands for each section of the plait. Then wrap it round to bear to make him all cozy!
Well done! You’ve completed your needle-felt bear! We hope you enjoyed this bear-tastic project as much as we did.
We hope that you liked our guide for this kit – we’ll be making more blogs in the future that we hope you’ll enjoy using/reading!
